Leaders of Hong Kong's television, film and recording industries called on the Government to address the increasingly sophisticated and rampant piracy activities in the digital age, which are threatening the very survival of the content supply industries.
The united call was made at a symposium organised by the Film, Television and Recording Industries' Copyright Concern Group*, set up jointly by major organisations in the industries in response to the Government's current consultation on the review of Hong Kong's Copyright Ordinance.
Officiating the opening of the "Film, Television And Recording Industries' Symposium on the Concern of Copyright Issues" at the Hong Kong Science Museum on January 23, 2005 was the Secretary for Commerce, Industry and Technology, Mr. John Tsang.
At the symposium, speakers, including representatives from the industries, legal experts and academics, exchanged views on the pressing copyright issues facing the industries, both locally and worldwide, in the face of rapid technological evolution, and offered insights into how urgent problems such as infringement activities through P2P should be tackled.
